When the camera won't lock onto a barcode, the cause is almost always physical. Clean the lens, add light if the area is dim, and hold the code flat and fully inside the frame. Glare from overhead lighting or shrink-wrap is a frequent culprit, so tilt the product slightly to kill the reflection.
When the label is the problem
Worn, faded, or torn labels read slowly or not at all. Turn on Enhanced Recognition in Settings → Scanning to push tough codes through with the AI model. If a label is damaged past reading, look the product up by SKU and reprint a fresh location or product label from the app.
Still nothing? Confirm the symbology is one Nautilus supports and that the app has camera permission in your device settings. Force-quitting and reopening the app clears the occasional stuck camera session.
