BuildRight Supply deployed Nautilus across three warehouses. The results: 70% faster cycle counts, 99.7% accuracy, and zero spreadsheets.

BuildRight Supply distributes building materials — lumber, drywall, fasteners, tools — across three warehouses in the Pacific Northwest. Before Nautilus, their inventory management ran on a combination of spreadsheets, a legacy ERP system, and a lot of manual counting.

The challenge

BuildRight's product catalog spans 14,000 SKUs with high variability. A single shelf might hold 15 different types of screws that look nearly identical. Their manual counting process required experienced staff who could visually identify products — new hires took months to become reliable counters.

Cycle counts consumed 120 staff-hours per month across all three locations. Despite the effort, inventory accuracy hovered around 94% — well below the 99%+ target needed for reliable order fulfillment.

Implementation

BuildRight rolled out Nautilus in phases — one warehouse at a time over six weeks. The team configured sections, bays, and levels to match their physical layout, then barcoded every location. Staff training took one afternoon per warehouse.

Results after 90 days

Cycle count time dropped from 120 hours to 36 hours per month — a 70% reduction. Inventory accuracy rose to 99.7%. Mispick rate fell from 2.1% to 0.3%. The time savings alone freed up the equivalent of two full-time warehouse associates, who were reassigned to fulfillment.

The team has since expanded to use voice commands and AI-prioritized counting, which they expect will cut the remaining 36 hours further.
